Watching the second Obama-McCain debate in Carbondale, Illinois.
I think it was a crushing defeat for McCain, and the CNN snap poll seems to agree. Yet, I’m afraid no matter how far ahead in the polls Obama is, McCain might still win the election, and the reason is race. Someone on the CNN pundit panel brought this up, and James Carville (who believes it’s game over for McCain) said something like “If that happens, it’s gonna be dramatic.” Indeed. I’ve just spent ten days traveling through the coal towns of Eastern Kentucky to the Mississippi river communities of Southern Illinois, and people in these places will not vote for Obama, no matter which party they support.
