This is still bothering me, so here goes.
I don’t understand Americans. For a European watching yesterday’s debate there was no question who should be the next president of the United States. McCain was stiff, nasty and out of breath. Instead of making a case he seemed to be making a plea. Alternately incomprehensible and self-aggrandising, he came across as an old buffoon who thinks him and me are friends just ’cause he says so. What’s worse, just like his running mate, he speaks to Americans as if they’re children.
I once thought he was an interesting guy, a bit of a rebel, a straight shooter. That jerk on TV last night? I don’t know who he is, and I can’t believe anyone in his right mind would put the fate of his country in those hands. And to think that in fact the fate of all of us might one day rest in the hands of that plastic right wing Action Doll called Sarah Palin makes me want to hide under the covers until the last ballot is counted.
