According to a new report by the Human Security Report Project, a 65 percent drop in terrorism-related deaths in Iraq in 2007 translated to a 47 percent drop in the global terrorism death toll.
In other words, the war in Iraq has significantly distorted worldwide statistics.
The report also challenges the “unusual practice of counting the intentional killing of civilians in civil wars as terrorism” — specifically of treating these acts as terrorism in Iraq but not elsewhere.
