Seriously speaking, “Mookie” to me sounds dodgy because I remember it being used by U.S. troops in Iraq the same way they use “hajji” etc. It might not be racist per se, just as “Jap” was only an abbreviation, but in that particular wartime context it was just as bad as “slanty-eyed bastard”.
